An increasingly dynamic business environment driven by new technology and the erosion of traditional business models is forcing organizations in every sector and field to make radical changes. Business development and transformation plays a key role in this environment, serving as a platform for strategic management and creative redesign. The scope of measures ranges from the identification of trends and innovative business ideas to the development of suitable business models and plans to the revaluation of markets and development of marketing strategies. Business development has to be a continuous process within an economically driven company in order for it to remain competitive in the long term.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the course can identify trends and business opportunities and professionally apply current methods and frameworks when planning new products, services and business models. They can create business plans and communicate these accordingly.

They are able to identify stakeholders, and to prepare and communicate the information appropriately to the respective stakeholder groups. They can explain the most important factors influencing creativity and incorporate them into change management processes in order to establish a sustainable innovation culture.

The handling of disruptive and transformative technologies such as Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchain is an intrinsic part of their work.

They are able to explain and compare methods for innovation projects in order to embed corresponding procedures in the business development process. They have the skills to carry out market analyses and identify target groups in order to incorporate these findings into the corresponding marketing activities.

Graduates are able to explain and compare (new) business models, and incorporate models derived from these into the business development process. They can explain and present the financial methods and the legal framework conditions underpinning business projects.

In the academic course, the graduates have also expanded their know-how when it comes to leading staff and project teams, along with their communication skills with a view to conflict resolution. They are aware of the problems that arise in change processes and have the expertise to successfully cope with them. They know how to conduct negotiations and are able to make a professional contribution to consulting activities.

Graduates of the “Business Development and Transformation” master’s course are also able to work independently on an issue using scientific methods and to write a master’s thesis.
